“What You Should Know about EFT and Grief”

Of course you’ve  heard that  people handle their grief in different ways.  For example it  is normal to grieve the loss of a loved one.  However, any change in life  (positive or negative)   will,  at times, bring  the emotion of grief to your heart.

Have you noticed yet that some people suffer grief after they have achieved a major goal in life?  What about ending a part of their life and beginning a new one?  The following are some of the symptoms of grief that a person might experience.

“The Grieving Process”

  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargaining
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

Some  people experience initial shock, disbelief, emotional paralysis  or guilt.  Feel free to add your own emotional experience to the list.

Some of the stress factors that might contribute to grief and depression  are:

  • Death of a spouse
  • Death of an immediate family member
  • Marriage
  • Divorce or separation
  • Divorce or separation of your parents
  • Moving to a different city
  • A new family member
  • A child who leaves the nest
  • Graduation
  • Loss of job
  • New job
  • Money problems
  • Buying or selling a house, etc. etc.

This is not a complete list, other stress factors might contribute to grief and depression.

While grieving  about our losses and disappointments is a part of  life there are times, when a person can get stuck in emotional overwhelm.  This is the time, when you need to ask for help.  You could  join a support group to share your loss.

Here is a fact for you,  EFT is effective to help you acknowledge the pain of what has happened to you and identify the current stress factors in your life. EFT is an amazing tool that you can use to  eliminate the unresolved negative emotions caused by your loss so you can move forward with life.

Tap 7 to 10 times on your  karate chop point  (side of hand) or on your favorite point and say:

I have the intention to release the sadness and grief from my heart.

When you think about  your loss,   what emotion do you feel?  Where do you feel that emotion in your body?

EFT Tip:  Even though I feel this sadness in my heart, I Accept that I am feeling this way  (Tap on all the energy points)  * Remember that your own case with grief is different and unique to you.  If you need professional EFT Support, we are here to work with you and help you identify, address and eliminate the multiple aspects and issues that could be contributing to your problem with grief.

Rate the intensity of your emotion on a scale of 0-10 (SUDS  Rating-Subjective Units of Distress)

10 meaning – your highest intensity (I feel terrible)

0 meaning  – no intensity at all  (I feel happy)    *  Remember to drink water before and during tapping

While rubbing the sore spot on your chest or tapping the karate chop point of either hand (7-10 times) Repeat the following EFT Phrases aloud:


Even though there is no way out for me,  I feel completely lost, I don’t know where to turn to.  I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself

Even though I have lost so much and my mind feels numb, I cannot have a clear thought.  I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself anyway

Even though I really feel this pain in my heart, I have lost so much, I just don’t know how I am going to be able to keep moving forward.  I deeply and profoundly love  and accept myself anyway

Even though this  pain in my heart is so deep and there is no way that I can feel better.  I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself anyway

Now tap on the following energy points while repeating your negative reminder phrases:  If possible tap on both sides of the face and body. (Use 3 or 4 fingers of one hand to tap on the energy points)

Crown of head:  I feel this tremendous pain in my heart

Beginning of eyebrow:  I have lost so much

Side of eye:  I feel NUMB

Under eye:  My mind is paralyzed

Under nose:  I cannot have a clear thought

Under mouth:  I don’t feel like doing anything

Collarbone:  I cannot keep going on like this

Under arm:  This pain is so deep  and it is overwhelming me

Crown of head:  I cannot keep going on like this

Beginning of eyebrow:   I cry and cry all day long

Side of eye:  I don’t even want to get up from bed

Under eye:  I don’t want to get out of this house

Under nose:  I don’t want to talk to anybody

Under mouth:  This pain in my heart is overwhelming me!

Collarbone:  This pain in my heart is overwhelming me!

Under arm:  I have lost so much!

Crown of head:  I feel numb,  I don’t think that I can get out of this one

Take a deep breath and release all this pain from your heart.  Release it from your mind and body.                                                                                                

How do you feel?

Rate your emotional intensity level on a scale of 0-10, do several rounds until your intensity is down to ZERO.

Now tap  REFRAMING AND POSITIVE CHOICES on each of the following energy points:

Crown of head:  What if I could relax just a little bit?

Beginning of eyebrow:  What if I am able to engage in new activities?

Side of eye:  Maybe I can talk to somebody

Under eye:  There is  somebody else that also understands  my pain

Under nose:  Maybe I can talk to a friend,  I can tell him what I am going through

Under mouth:  I know that it is going to take some time for me to feel better

Collarbone:  But maybe I can let go of some of this pain

Under arm:  What if I can begin to feel more energetic?

Crown of head:  What if I can start doing something  new?  I am open to the possibility that I can let go of some of this pain

Beginning of eyebrow:  What if I could let go of some of this numbness that I feel every single day?

Side of eye:  I am open to becoming free

Under eye:  I deserve to begin having some joy in my heart

Under nose:  I deserve to wake up in the morning  being energetic

Under mouth:  I have all the memories left

Collarbone:  I can think of all the good times we spent together

Under arm:  I can talk to others about the wonderful moments that we spent together

Crown of head:  I am open to talking to other people more

Take a deep breath and let the pain from your heart go.  Let it go, You don’t need to keep it anymore!

“Gratitude Process”

Put your hand on the middle of your chest (your heart center) and tap while repeating aloud:

I am grateful because I know that I can get better

I am grateful because I have wonderful friends that support me

I am grateful because I know that my heart is healing!

I am grateful because I can look forward to tomorrow

I am grateful because I know that things are getting better and better for me

I am grateful because I can remember the wonderful times we spent together

You know that it is not healthy for you to be stuck in this emotional pain, so be kind to yourself and talk to your friends.

Talk to someone who can help you and keep doing this EFT Exercise to help you deal with grief.  I really hope that this can help you.
