“How Can EFT Help You Relieve Excruciating Headaches and Neck Pain”
My husband and I went to the beautiful River Walk in San Antonio, Texas for the weekend. We had a lot of fun with our sons, while we listened to the live Mexican music that was playing. The weather was perfect which made our walk more enjoyable, since we don’t like the hot weather that is typical of San Antonio.
The River Walk was crowded, like usual, and I enjoyed all those shops with arts and crafts and goodies along the walk.
What I didn’t like is that I confirmed once again that I can never find our names in the necklaces and bracelets that they sell as souvenirs there.
We could smell the different aromas of the Mexican food mixing with the aromas of the Italian food, and the sweetness of the bakery and the ice cream shop. We could also hear the sounds of the ducks splashing in the river while the boats gave people tours alongside the shops and the restaurants. It was truly an amazing sight!
We had decided to be there in the evening because we wanted to watch all the lights from the buildings as they reflected on the river. I really love the lights.
We went home that night and we stopped at the supermarket to buy some supplies. Of course, I got some ice cream just to have in the house, and then we went to sleep.
What does ice cream have to do with EFT?
Around 4:30 in the morning, I woke up because I heard noises in the kitchen, my first thought was: “aawrr” my husband is up to no good, and I jumped out of bed to save my stash of ice cream.
Yes, he was in the kitchen, pacing back and forth and with looks of agony on his face. I realized then that he really was not interested in the ice cream.
He was experiencing one of the mot excruciating headaches he ever had, and his neck was hurting so much. I immediately offered him some pain killers, which he refused. He thought that over the counter medicine was not going to help him. He said, Oh my God! Where is a good EFT practitioner when you need her?
Well, this EFT practitioner was half awake, half asleep. My old clients know that I love to start my EFT sessions with a few rounds of the Constricted Breathing Technique, to help bring their awareness into their bodies, breathe deeper and freer and also in some cases, it helps them to remember issues that need clearing. And you know what? They love it.
But you guessed it. I forgot to use it in my sleepy state. It was obvious to me that on a scale of 0 – 10, my husband’s excruciating pain was a 20.
I asked him to describe the quality of the pain, he said that the pain was debilitating, excruciating and agonizing and he felt it on the left side of his head and in his left ear. He could hardly see straight. He had been trying to cradle his head in a position where he felt more comfortable, but it was impossible. He felt his head was going to explode!
There were so many questions coming into my EFT mind by now:
- Could this pain have an emotional contributor?
- This acute pain is on his left side. I learned from Louise Hay that usually pain that you suffer on the left side of your body has to do with unresolved mother issues. Could this be the case?
- Could this be a mechanical pain? This is pain that you suffer because of physical causes, you moved your body kind of weird, you slept in a crooked position, you lifted something heavy and there goes your back, etc. etc.
- Could it be stress?
- Could it be anxiety?
- Sometimes, pain equals punishment. Are we thinking deep inside of us that we need to be in pain to punish ourselves for our mistakes?
Of course, these are just a few of the possibilities that I have to consider when I have a client who is suffering pain.
I was observing my husband’s body, and his shoulders were so scrunched up, I decided to tackle this physical aspect to bring some relaxation to his body. I was leaning more on the idea that this excruciating headache was due to mechanical causes.
Rate the intensity of your emotion on a scale of 0-10 (SUDS Rating-Subjective Units of Distress)
10 meaning- your highest emotional intensity (I feel terrible)
0 meaning- no intensity at all (I feel happy) Drink water before tapping
While rubbing the sore spot on your chest or tapping the karate chop point of either hand (7-10 times) repeat the following phrases aloud:
EFT SET UP PHRASES
Even though my shoulders are so stiff, and I cannot relax them, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself
Even though I might have slept crooked, and my shoulders hurt, I love and approve of myself
Even though my shoulders are so stiff, I accept that I am having this problem
Now tap on the following energy points while repeating your negative reminder phrases: (If possible tap on both sides of the face and body) (Use 3 or 4 fingers of one hand to tap on the energy points)
Crown of head: My shoulders are so stiff
Beginning of eyebrow: I can’t relax them
Side of eye: This stiffness in my shoulders
Under eye: This inflexibility in my shoulders
Under nose: My whole body is so stiff
Under mouth: I am so stiff
Collarbone: This stiffness in my shoulders
Under arm: I am so stiff and tensed
Crown of head: I cannot relax
Beginning of eyebrow: I probably slept crooked
Side of eye: I have all this tension in my shoulders
Under eye: My shoulders are so stiff
Under nose: My shoulders are so stiff
Under mouth: I have this tension in my shoulders
Collarbone: I slept in a weird position
Under arm: Everything hurts
Crown of head: My shoulders feel so stiff
I asked my husband to take a slow healing breath in and out and see what changes had occurred.
He said that there was a very small change in the stiffness in his shoulders and the pain was still unbearable. He described this pain like as if a sharp needle was stuck in his eardrum.
While rubbing the sore spot on your chest or tapping the karate chop point of either hand (7-10 times) repeat the following phrases aloud:
EFT SET UP PHRASES
Even though I have this excruciating pain in my neck and cervical vertebrae, and my head is going to explode, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself
Even though it feels like I have a sharp needle stuck in my eardrum, I deeply and completely accept myself and I accept that I am having all this excruciating pain in my head and ear
Even though I have this unbearable pain in the left side of my head and my left ear, I deeply approve of myself and I accept that I am having this excruciating pain
Now tap on the following energy points while repeating your negative reminder phrases: (If possible tap on both sides of the face and body) (Use 3 or 4 fingers of one hand to tap on the energy points)
Crown of head: I have this excruciating pain in my neck
Beginning of eyebrow: My cervical vertebrae hurt
Side of eye: My head is going to explode
Under eye: The pain in my head is unbearable
Under nose: The left side of my head really hurts
Under mouth: It feels like I have a sharp needle stuck in my eardrum
Collarbone: The left side of my head hurts so much
Under arm: The pain in my left ear is excruciating
Crown of head: It is agony!
Beginning of eyebrow: I feel like I am having a sharp needle stuck in my eardrum
Side of eye: This sharp pain in the left side of my head
Under eye: This debilitating pain in the left side of my head
Under nose: This sharp needle stuck in my eardrum
Under mouth: This debilitating pain in the left side of my head
Collarbone: This pain in my neck and cervical vertebrae is excruciating
Under arm: This sharp needle stuck in my left ear
Crown of head: My headache is debilitating
I told him to take a slow healing breath in and out and release the excruciating pain from the left side of his head, his left ear and his neck!
My husband said that he was beginning to feel relaxed, but the pain was still around a 7.
I thought about trying something different…I was thinking that sometimes we have an inner child that needs attention and he is tired that everybody is always telling him/her “stop it” “don’t do it” “don’t talk” etc. etc.
Frankly, didn’t you ever get tired of hearing those phrases when you were a little kid?
While rubbing the sore spot on your chest or tapping the karate chop point of either hand (7-10 times) repeat the following phrases aloud:
EFT SET UP PHRASES
Even though I am refusing to release this pain from the left side of my head, I deeply love and accept myself
Even though I don’t want to let go of the pain from my left ear, I love and accept myself
Even though I won’t clear this pain from my neck, I am O.K. and I deeply and completely love and accept myself
Now tap on the following energy points while repeating your negative reminder phrases: (If possible tap on both sides of the face and body) (Use 3 or 4 fingers of one hand to tap on the energy points)
Crown of head: I am refusing to release this pain from the left side of my head
Beginning of eyebrow: I don’t want to let go of the pain from my left ear
Side of eye: I don’t want to clear this pain from my neck
Under eye: I refuse to be pain free
Under nose: I must need this pain for something
Under mouth: I don’t want to clear the pain from the left side of my head
Collarbone: I don’t want to be pain free
Under arm: I really don’t want to relax
Crown of head: I am refusing to release this pain from the left side of my head
Beginning of eyebrow: I really don’t want to be pain free
Side of eye: What if I can relax now?
Under eye: Why is it getting easier and easier to be headache free?
Under nose: I deserve to be completely pain free
Under mouth: What if I allow my left ear to be completely pain free?
Collarbone: I really deserve to have a pain free body
Under arm: I deserve peace in my head and in my left ear
Crown of head: I prefer peace in my head, my left ear and my neck
My husband reported that his pain had decreased considerably and now it was around a 4.
He really was looking better and his shoulders were relaxed. So we continued:
While rubbing the sore spot on your chest or tapping the karate chop point of either hand (7-10 times) repeat the following phrases aloud:
EFT SET UP PHRASES
Even though I still have some of this pain in the left side of my head, I accept myself and I accept that this pain has really been excruciating
Even though I still had some pain in my left ear, I accept myself and I forgive myself for anything I could have done to contribute to this problem
Even though my neck still hurts, I approve of myself and I forgive myself for anything I could have done to contribute to my debilitating pain
Now tap on the following energy points while repeating your negative reminder phrases: (If possible tap on both sides of the face and body) (Use 3 or 4 fingers of one hand to tap on the energy points)
Crown of head: I still have some pain in the left side of my head
Beginning of eyebrow: I have this remaining pain in my left ear
Side of eye: My neck still hurts
Under eye: I forgive myself for anything I did to contribute to my headache
Under nose: I forgive myself for anything I did to contribute to the pain in my left ear
Under mouth: I forgive myself for anything I did to contribute to the pain in my neck
Collarbone: I am allowing myself to be completely pain free
Under arm: I give my head permission to be pain free
Crown of head: My head, my left ear and my neck deserves to be relaxed and free from pain
By this time, he could hardly stay awake. I knew that he was completely pain free. But just to make sure I asked him to scan his head, his neck and his ear and see how he was feeling.
My husband moved his head from side to side several times, (looking for the pain). His neck was completely pain free. He said his head and left shoulder were free from pain also. He immediately went to sleep, a few hours later he woke up and he was really relaxed. His shoulders were not scrunched anymore and he has noticed more flexibility in his neck in the days that followed.
This EFT process took us around 70 minutes,
Ah…the magic of EFT!

For The last 2 day I’ve been developing an acute pain and neck stiffness up to the point that I can’t turn my head to either side. I have done various rounds of this but I still find myself in between 3-4 out of 10. Been thinking of the emotion associated to it but could not find the precise one.
